Gentrification is a term that a lot of people know, but that many do not fully understand because it has been oversimplified as neighborhood revitalization. In this video, an urban planning scholar, Stacey Sutton, discusses the true costs of gentrification in New York City, but that can be applied to many cities across the United States. Not only does she touch on our common misconceptions surrounding gentrification, but she also highlights what we can do when thinking and talking about gentrification in the future. The executive director of the Institute for Housing Studies at DePaul, Jeff Smith, talks about opportunity zones, a new policy that identifies areas that are in need of investments.
