Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
Some of you may already know the acronym, ESL, which stands for English as a Second Language. ESL refers to language education for those who are learning English. Although this acronym is still used, we prefer to use the term, Teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL), because it does not assume that English the child's second language (it might be his/her third or fourth). Good tutors adapt their tutoring methods, their expectations of students, and their teaching materials to the needs of their learners.
